Germany was one of the most successful teams at the 14th edition of the Icestocksport World Championships in Ritten, Italy.

The Germans firstly dominated in the men’s long distance event, with Markus Schaetzl winning gold, Michael Spaeth securing silver and Peter Rottmoser taking bronze.

Schaetzl’s fourth throw, which went as far as 118.86 metres, was the title clincher.

Spaeth's longest distance was 110.90m while Rottmoser’s best throw was slightly shorter at 108.88m.

Anna-Lena Leitner represented the Germans in the women’s long distance with a score of 140.15m, enough to secure second place.

Austria’s Lisa-Marie Stampfl edged the final thanks to her first throw going as far as 141.32m while compatriot Evelyn Perhab was slightly behind Leitner, scoring 139.20m in her fifth throw.

Germany returned to the top of the podium for the men’s team event, beating Austria 4-0 after recording a 16-8 win in the first game and a 15-13 triumph in the second.

Italy finished third while Switzerland came fourth.

Austria suffered more final heartbreak in the women’s team event after they lost 13-9 and 16-13 in games one and two, handing Italy a 4-0 victory overall.

Germany ended the event in third and Slovakia took fourth.
