The World Sambo Super Cup is set to become the first-ever International Sambo Federation (FIAS) tournament to feature competitions for blind and visually impaired athletes.

Formally known as the Kharlampiev Memorial, the event is scheduled to take place in Moscow from March 25 to 26 at the Luzhniki Sports Palace and tournament regulations have been published.

There will be seven weight categories in each of the men's, women's and combat sambo tournaments while an SVI-1 class for blind athletes and SVI-2 for competitors with other visual impairments will be made up of five weight classes each.

Blind sambo administrators are ultimately targetting Paralympic inclusion, and this first international even is seen as a major milestone on that journey.

The World Sambo Super Cup is included in the list of FIAS rating tournaments, meaning that athletes will be able to gain ranking points to contribute to their overall ranking for 2022.

The FIAS regulations for the tournament state that athletes must be born in 2004 at the latest to be allowed to take part.

National delegations can consist of a maximum of 33 people, which includes 21 athletes, nine coaches, two doctors and one team manager.

There is also a limit of one fighter per country in each weight category, although the SVI-1 class will allow two.

Each team member must provide proof of a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test in their home country no earlier than 48 hours before arrival.
