Centro Caribe Sports (CCS) has launched its first junior Games with the inaugural edition set for 2024 while Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic has been announced as the host of the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.

President of CCS, Luis Mejia Oviedo, said that the event would be in line with the Junior Pan American Games in 2025, although neither have exact dates or host cities currently.

The 2024 event would qualify gold medallists for the Junior Pan American Games the following year which would in turn see champions given a place at the Barranquilla 2027 Pan American Games, allowing youth athletes a clear pathway for progression.

The Management Committee of the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo in 2026 were also present at the governing body's Extraordinary General Assembly in Cali in Colombia.

The committee showcased a video of the capital's facilities to the National Olympic Committee delegates in addition to a message from the President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader expressing the Government's support for the event.

The event is being billed as the "Centennial Games" as it will mark 100 years since the first edition took place in Mexico City in 1926.

The Dominican Republic has prior experience in staging events of this size, having organised the Pan American Games in 2003 and the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1974 and 1986.

Santo Domingo was the sole candidate for 2026 following the withdrawal of León in Mexico.

The Organising Committees of the first Central American and Caribbean Beach Games in Santa Marta in Colombia, to be held in November 2022, and the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador were also in Cali to present reports on the progress and work to be made for their respective multisport events.
