The University of Strathclyde in Scotland lead the way in athlete representation, with four athletes heading to the Swiss city, closely followed by University of Nottingham with three athletes all competing in short track speed skating.

Eight of the 10 curlers are either studying or have graduated at Scottish universities as they bid for success.

Curling has been Britain’s best medal performance in the past Games, with the men’s teams achieving bronze in 2019 and gold in 2017.

University of Strathclyde trio Alexander Haswell, Amy Macdonald and Mark Taylor have been selected in the curling team for the Universiade, due to take place between December 11 and 21. 

They will join Fay Henderson of the University of Dundee, James Craik of the University of Stirling, Lisa Davie of Edinburgh Napier University, Rebecca Morrison of Robert Gordon University and Open University duo Angus Bryce and Niall Ryder.

Britain will also compete in biathlon, figure skating, freestyle skiing and snowboarding, and speed skating.

Thea Fenwick of Staffordshire University and Daniel Abra of Loughborough University will represent Britain in freestyle skiing and snowboarding, while Victoria McMahon of the University of Dundee and Elliott Thompson of the University of Strathclyde will compete in figure skating.

The short track speed skating team is made up of Talya Kaye, Isaac Raizada and Ethan Treacy of the University of Nottingham, as well as Tanith Turner of the University of Surrey and Charlotte Hayward of Nottingham Trent University.

Holly Lay of Oxford Brookes University will be Britain’s sole biathlon competitor.
