The International Esports Federation (IESF) has invited bids to host the organisation’s flagship Esports World Championships in 2022.

The IESF says the Esports World Championships is the only multi-game esports tournament that features national teams, with athletes from over 60 nations having previously represented their nations.

The governing body says it expects its upcoming Esports World Championships to feature athletes from over 100 nations, due to its expanded number of member federations.

"The IESF flagship event, the World Championships, which unites national teams from over 100 countries across five game titles is now open for bidding," said Vlad Marinescu, IESF President.

"We are proud to announce the bidding process for the 14th edition of these World Championships 2022 and look forward to working closely with bidding nations during this process in order to ensure the best possible conditions for the esports athletes and community.

"We are sure this event will enjoy worldwide media exposure and participation of more than 1000 athletes."

The IESF say interested parties should review bid information, with the governing body offering documents outlining the benefits for hosts, the social and environmental impact, and the revenue potential.

Potential hosts are required to submit a letter of intent by July 5, with the IESF then holding consultations.

Completed bid applications will then need to be submitted, before the IESF conducts evaluations and a site survey.

The IESF will then have a voting process to determine the host.

"IESF Esports World Championship will bring the most contemporary esports trend to your community," said Youngman Kim, IESF vice-president.

"It will change the way of communication between generations and garner greater understanding between them.

"Join us and experience the most exciting sports we all can enjoy."

The COVID-19 pandemic prevented the IESF from holding in-person finals for the 2020 Esports World Championship, the 12th edition of the event.

Eilat had been due to host the 2020 finals, with the Israeli city now set to hold the 2021 finals late this year.
