Bouziani completed a 30-kilometre distance in a time of 40min 21sec to top the podium in the Belgian city.

He finished with a cushion of 49 seconds over runner-up Matthias Schindler of Germany, while The Netherlands’ Stijn Boersma placed third at 53 seconds down.

France enjoyed further success in the men’s C5 class event, as Kevin Le Cunff produced a strong performance to cross the line in 38:38.

Dutch rider Daniel Abraham Gebru finished second at 24 seconds down, with France’s Dorian Foulon rounding off the podium at 53 seconds behind the winner.

Colombia’s Diego Duenas Gomez earned a narrow victory in the men’s C4 competition in a time of 40:12, ending 11 seconds faster than the United States’ Cody Jung.

Jung’s compatriot Jason Macom earned the final podium spot in 41:14.

Home success came in the men’s C2 race as Ewoud Vormant topped the leaderboard after clocking 27:16 on a 20km course.

The Belgian rider was followed by France’s Alexandre Leaute and the Netherlands’ Andre Wijnhoud, who clocked 27:40 and 28:36 respectively.

Britain’s Crystal Lane-Wright secured a comfortable victory in the women’s C5 race in a time of 28:39.

The podium was completed by France’s Heidi Gaugain and the United States’ Hannah Raymond, who achieved times of 29:53 and 31:35.

Sweden's Anna Beck triumphed in one of the closest races of the day.

Beck topped the standings in the women's C3 competition by finishing in 30:46, with the United States' Clara Brown just two seconds off the pace.

Japan's Keiko Sugiura was 25 seconds down in third.

Samantha Bosco won the women's C4 time trial in 29:39, with the American nearly three minutes faster than the runner-up Katell Alencon.

Road races will begin tomorrow.
