Organisers of the 2022 Men’s World Floorball Championship in Zurich and Winterthur have announced the goal of making it the first climate-neutral event in the competition's history.

The Swiss Floorball Association claims a series of "innovative measures" will be implemented to achieve the target.

The measures will be in place in five main areas - arena operations, team travel and accommodation, fan travel, which will involve a new chartered train service, food at the venue and material purchasing and waste management.

Organisers also plan to have CO2 emissions totalling a maximum of 3000 tonnes.

That is less than half of the total CO2 emissions of the 2018 tournament in Prague, and these emissions will be compensated by investing in a number of climate projects, it is claimed.

"We want to provide ways to do this so that everyone can help us reach our Green Goal and, in the best case, also create added value," said Organising Committee chief executive Daniel Kasser.

"This means working towards this goal together and having fun at the same time.

"So why travel to the event alone by car when the floorball festival can already begin in the special chartered fan train?

"In addition, the train will stop almost in front of the arena, and the ride is also cheaper than taking your car."

Among the other changes being adopted at the 2022 event will be product recycling and sustainably manufactured clothing for the volunteers.
