The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has announced €100,000 (£86,000/$119,000) has been raised as part of a collaboration with TikTok to help support sports clubs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The DOSB partnered with TikTok, a leading platform for mobile short videos, last year as part of a #SupportYourSport campaign.

The project was aimed at providing support for sport projects run by clubs during the pandemic, with donations going to Stiftung Deutscher Sport.

The foundation established a support fund in April to help the DOSB member organisations amid the financial challenges caused by the global health crisis.

As part of the fundraising campaign, TikTok users were able to collect points that they earn by inviting their friends to use TikTok, watching videos in the "For You" feed and creating and uploading TikTok videos with the hashtag #SupportYourSport.

Users were able to decide whether the equivalent value of the collected points should be paid out to a PayPal or bank account or used as a direct donation for the joint campaign of the DOSB and TikTok.

Around 64,425 creators made over 33,000 videos as part of the fundraising campaign, which the DOSB said received more than 120 million views.

TikTok also made an additional donation for each new community member throughout the campaign.

"We are very pleased that we can make a valuable contribution to maintaining diversity in sporting Germany in cooperation with TikTok through our #SupportYourSport campaign," said DOSB President Alfons Hörmann.

“"very day without sports in the club endangers the unique club landscape in Germany.

"Through the joint campaign with TikTok, we were not only able to generate a financial contribution to self-help, but also give various sports and our member organisations visibility in pandemic times that they would otherwise not have."

The DOSB said clubs with projects can apply for #SupportYourSport funding through the Sportdeutschland crowdfunding project on the Fairplaid platform.

Funding is aimed at all sports clubs in Germany under the umbrella of the DOSB, with a specific focus on club projects aimed at retaining and attracting members.

The creation of digital offers, technical equipment and advertising are initiatives being supported.

Fundraising efforts follow the DOSB’s concerns that the decline in membership of clubs due to the COVID-19 pandemic has threatened their existence due to the financial cost.

Tobias Henning, TikTok Germany general manager, said the organisation welcomed the opportunity to support the fundraising effort.

"We are very happy that, thanks to our committed and solidarity community, we were able to reach our donation goal of €100,000," Henning said.

"It makes me proud that TikTok, together with the DOSB, can support German sport in all its diversity.

"As a company, we see it as our responsibility to get involved in society.

"In this global crisis in particular, we want to do our part and support those who are struggling with the current challenges."
