Reigning world champion Jimmy Vienot of France beat Peru's Giovanni Mazzetti today to progress to the quarter-finals of the men's elite A 75 kilograms event at the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur World Championships in Bangkok.

Vienot, who defeated Estonia's Karl Joonatan Kvell in his opening match yesterday, won by stoppage at the Sports Authority of Thailand venue after Mazzetti incurred an injury to his head.

He will now face Turkey's Enis Yunusoğlu, a 29-28 winner over Portugal's Adelino Boa Morte in the last 16.

France's other winners today in senior competition were Akram Hamidi and Celestin Mendes in the men's elite A 54kg and men's elite A 63.5kg categories, respectively.

Hamidi overcame Belarus' Vitali Ramanouski 29-28, while Mendes claimed victory by the same scoreline against Kazakhstan's Abil Galiyev.

There were French losses, however, for Lahoucine Idouche and Myriame Djedidi.

Both lost to Turkish opposition with Idouche beaten 30-27 by Erdem Dincer in the men's elite A 67kg and Djedidi falling to a 29-28 defeat at the hands of Gulistan Turan in the women's elite A 48kg.
