New Zealand’s Sharlotte Lucas defended her elite women’s road race title at the Oceania Road Championships in Tasmania.

Lucas emerged as the fastest finisher at the end of the 105 kilometres race in the Australian state.

A sprint finish was required to decide the destination of the title with no rider able to make a decisive move on the large final hill.

She had the speed to pass Australia’s Sarah Gigante in the final metres and claim back-to-back titles at the continental event.

Australia’s Justine Barrow secured the silver medal in the elite women’s race and New Zealand's Kirsty McCallum took bronze.

Gigante, the Australian national champion, was crowned as the winner of the under-23 competition.

The podium was rounded off by Australia's Jemma Eastwood and New Zealand's Georgia Christie.

The victory saw Gigante secure double gold at the Championships having won the under-23 time trial race yesterday.

New Zealand's Finn Fisher-Black celebrated victory in the men’s under-19 race, following on from a triumph in the time trial.

He earned victory ahead of Australia's Sebastian Barrett.

The podium was rounded off by New Zealand's Josh Lane.

The Championships are due to conclude tomorrow with the men’s under-23 and elite races.

The women’s under-19 race will also be held tomorrow.

The African Continental Cycling Championships in Bahir Dar continued with the mixed team relay event.

Eritrea emerged as the winner of the competition, finishing ahead of Rwanda.

The bronze medal was earned by hosts Ethiopia
