Six athletes nominated for April's Americas Athlete of the Month award have been announced by the Americas Paralympic Committee.

Field athletes Andre Rocha of Brazil, Francisca Mardones of Chile and Mauricio Valencia of Colombia are named, along with Canadian wheelchair racer Alexandre Dupont and swimmers Daniela Gimenez of Argentina and Robert Griswold of the United States.

The public are invited to vote until Monday (May 14) for their winner via the Americas Paralympic Committee website here.

Rocha broke a world record that had stood for almost 20 years in throwing 8.73 metres in the men's shot put F53 category.

Mardones, meanwhile, set an Americas record of 6.69m in the women's shot put F54 category at the São Paulo Grand Prix.

Gimenez won two golds, one silver and a bronze at the third World Series in São Paulo, as she made her return to competition after winning the world title in Mexico City.

Griswold won two gold medals in the 400m freestyle and 100m backstroke, and set US and Americas records in the 100m butterfly at the World Series in Indianapolis.

The nominations are compiled after submissions by National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) from across the continent.
