Swiss fencer Max Heinzer secured a fourth International Fencing Federation Grand Prix title in Budapest after a superb display in the épée division.

Italy’s Mara Navarria also took gold in the corresponding women’s event at the MOM Sport Hall.

Heinzer beat France's Alex Fava in the final of the men's competition by a narrow 15-13 margin.

He had earlier edged Estonia's two-time world champion Nikolai Novosjolov 15-12 and Russia's Sergey Khodos 15-10 to reach the final.

France's Jonathan Bonnaire shared bronze with Khodos.

Navarria beat Sheng Lin 5-4 in the corresponding women's final.

It marked her second Grand Prix medal this season after a silver in Doha.

Navarria won her semi-final 14-13 against 103rd-ranked Marie-Florence Candassamy of France, who shared bronze with Ewa Nelip of Poland.

More than 500 fencers participated in the Hungarian capital.
