Elvira Karin Oeberg won gold at the International Biathlon Union Youth/Junior World Championships on her birthday - and just days after her sister Hanna sealed Olympic glory in Pyeongchang.

Nineteen-year-old Elvira clinched the youth women's 10 kilometres individual title today in Otepää in Estonia to continue a memorable spell for the Swede's family.

Older sister Hanna Oeberg won Winter Olympic gold in the 15km individual in Pyeongchang on February 15.

Elvira's victory came with just one penalty as she clocked 35min 35.9sec.

Russia's Anastasia Shevchenko recorded two penalties but won silver, 35.6 seconds back, while her team-mate Anastasiia Goreeva missed three times but still earned bronze, 53.8 seconds behind.

The victor missed her first shot at the opening prone stage which meant she left the stadium in 30th position.

She was perfect at the range from then on, however, on a day when nobody shot clean.

"I was so happy for Hanna when she won, and now I win," the Swede said.

In the men's youth 12.5km individual there was gold for Russia and Mikhail Pervushin.

He too recorded one penalty as he clocked 37:41.2 for the gold medal.

Filip Andersen of Norway took the silver medal with one penalty, 12.3 seconds behind.

Bronze went to France's Martin Bourgeois Republique with two penalties, 47.2 seconds back.

"I was worried before the start, but I'm happy that things turned out as they did," said Pervushin.

"Today I was aiming for clean shooting, but I did not succeed, that upset me, but I had to fight for the win.

"I feel good on the track, I like it - overall I'm happy."

Junior relays for men and women will be held tomorrow.
