South Africa will meet hosts Egypt in the final of the men’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ismailia after they each completed the round robin phase with convincing wins.

A 3-3 draw preserved both countries unbeaten records from three matches yesterday, with the result pushing them a step towards the final.

Egypt ensured themselves of a place in the gold medal match in front of their home fans, brushing aside the challenge of Ghana at the Suez Canal Hockey Stadium.

Hamada Atef found the net from two penalty corners, before goals from Mohamed Zaki and Ahmed Elganaini completed a 4-0 win.

The hosts are now due to take on South Africa, who claimed a 6-1 victory over Kenya.

Goals from Jethro Eustice and Reza Rosenberg gave South Africa’s a 2-0 advantage before Constant Wakhura reduced the arrears for Kenya.

Two goals from Keenan Horne, combined with strikes from Daniel Bell and Jonathan Robinson, saw South Africa pull clear to a 6-1 victory.

Kenya and Ghana will meet in the third place playoff.

South Africa are scheduled contest both finals tomorrow.

Their women’s team are set to clash with Ghana.

The two nations were assured of spots in the gold medal match even before their meeting in the group stage today.

It is South Africa who will head into the final in higher spirits, however.

Goals from Celia Evans, Illse Davids and Dirkie Chamerlain gave them a 3-0 win over their rivals.

Kenya claimed a 1-0 win over Egypt in the second group match of the day, Teresa Nekesa Juma’s solitary strike proving decisive.

Kenya's victory means they will face Nigeria in tomorrow’s bronze medal match.
