India thrashed arch-rivals Pakistan 4-0 to book their place in the final of the men's Asia Hockey Cup in Bangladesh.

The victory at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka meant the Indians finished top of the Super 4s stage of the competition with an undefeated record.

Pakistan's defeat means they exit the tournament without a win during the Super 4s.

Satbir Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Lalit Upadhyay and Gurjant Singh bagged the Indian goals in the rout.

India have now won six consecutive matches against Pakistan.

"The first two quarters were not good," said Indian captain Manpreet Singh, after his side had to wait 39 minutes for Satbir Singh's opener.

"Our basics were not up to the mark.

"We missed quite a few passes.

"But we came back strongly in the fourth quarter.

"For me, it was important to play our game and not think about their game.

"We had to maintain our structure and we needed to stay calm and that's what we spoke to each other about in every quarter."

India will now meet Malaysia in the final after they finished second in the Super 4s following a 1-1 draw with South Korea.

Yang Ji-hun gave the Koreans the lead in the 24th minute but Faizal Saari struck one minute from time to ensure a share of the spoils and put Malaysia through.

South Korea drew all three of their Super 4s games which did not prove enough to advance as Malaysia ended with one more point.

Elsewhere, the Africa Cup of Nations for men and women will begin tomorrow in Egyptian city Ismailia.

The winners of both tournaments will book their places at next year's World Cups.

Both events initially start with a one-group round robin phase.

Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia are the teams playing in both tournaments.
