Rabenstein will stage the final leg of the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) Ice Climbing World Cup this weekend.

Lead and speed competitions will be contested at the World Cup tomorrow and on Sunday (January 29), as the overall classifications are decided in Italy.

South Korea’s Han Na Rai Song looks poised to claim the women’s lead crown, following victories at the last two World Cups in Cheongsong and Saas Fee respectively.

She has a total of 312 points heading into the final event of the series, with Italy’s Angelika Rainer lying second on 250.

The home favourite has ended second in two World Cups so far this season, buy will hope to end on a high in Rabenstein.

Hee Yong Park tops the men’s standings, but the South Korean will have to fight off the challenge of Russia’s Nikolai Kuzovlev.

He has a total of 327, with Kuzovlev lying 61 points down.

Russians are set to win both the men’s and women’s speed events, with Vladimir Kartashev leading the former with a total of 260 points and Pavel Batushev second on 216.

Ekaterina Koshcheeva has a 15 point advantage over Maria Tolokonina in the women’s classification, with the Russian having a total of 240 overall.

Nadezhda Gallyamova remains an outside prospect for the World Cup title, but she trails on 185 points.

The final World Cup comes a week ahead of the World Championships, which will take place in Champagny-en-Vanoise, France, from February 4 to 5.
