Park Hee Yong and Song Han Na Rai gave South Korea double success in lead competitions on the final day of their home International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) Ice Climbing World Cup in Cheongsong.

Park was the host nation's sole representative in the men’s lead final, in which half of the eight man field were Russian athletes.

The South Korean competitor ultimately produced a strong display in the event, finishing in front of his nearest rival Yannick Glatthard of Switzerland to take the victory.

Russia’s Maxim Tomilov completed the podium, edging out his compatriot Nikolay Primerov for third place.

Further success for South Korea came in the women’s event, as Song backed up topping yesterday’s qualification standings by winning in the final.

She would finish clear of Ireland’s Eimir McSwiggan and Russia’s Maryam Filippova, who would have to settle for second and third respectively.

While South Korea dominated the lead events, Russia would sweep the women’s and men’s podiums in the speed competitions.

Natalia Belyaeva beat Ekaterina Feoktistova in the women’s final by finishing in 20.26 seconds, with her compatriot 0.49 adrift.

Maria Tolokonina triumphed in the third place play-off, with her time of 21.66 seeing the Russian end 11 seconds in front of team-mate Nadezhda Gallyamova.

A closely fought men’s final saw Pavel Batushev claim victory in a time of 13.30 seconds, while his fellow Russian Vladimir Kartashev managed 13.99.

The podium was completed by Kirill Kolchegoshev, as Vladislav Iurlov failed to complete the course in their battle.
