Vladimir Kartashev and Ekaterina Koshcheeva led Russian clean sweeps in the respective men’s and women’s speed finals at the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) Ice Climbing World Cup in Swiss village Saas Fee today.

Kartashev clocked a time of 8.87sec to claim his first World Cup title of the season, following runners-up finishes in China’s capital Beijing and Cheongsong in South Korea.

Leonid Malykh came second in 9.81, while Pavel Batushev was third in 9.87.

Victory for Koshcheeva in the women’s event ensured her second gold medal of the season, triumphing in 17.41.

Maria Tolokonina was the runner-up in 17.85 and followed in the rankings by Nadezhda Gallyamova in 19.24.

Action in Saas Fee is due to conclude tomorrow with the lead events.

South Korea's Hee Yong Park will hope to extend his overall World Cup lead, while nearest challenger Nikolai Kuzovlev of Russia will look to close a 16-point gap.

Yannick Glatthard is 45 points off the pace in third and will aim to impress in front of a home crowd.

South Korea's Han Na Rai Song tops the women's standings on 212 points, with compatriot Shin Woonseon second on 200.
