The Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore will play host to the 2016 SPORTELAsia convention, it has been announced.

The event is scheduled for March 15 to 17 and will see Singapore welcome international sports marketing and media leaders from across the world.

"Other than being the industry’s choice, Singapore has proven to be a natural fit with its growing involvement in international sports events held in the new Sports Hub," SPORTEL general manager Amparo Di Fede said.

"As the developing business opportunities with sports media businesses, sponsors and promoters is increasing the regional demand of sporting experiences, Singapore is a true sports partner."

The slogan for SPORTELAsia 2016 is "meet the elite", with the objective of the three-day conference being to inspire attendees, giving them a platform to interact with other like-minded professionals.

It is also hoped that the event will help create further business opportunities in Asia and across the globe for those that make the journey to Singapore.

A full programme for the 2016 convention will be released nearer the time.

SPORTELAsia 2014 was held in Shanghai, with Miami in the United States staging the 2015 SPORTELAmerica convention.

Representatives from ESPN, Eurosport, the International Equestrian Federation, Fox Sports, the German Football Association, Infront Sports and Media, insidethegames.biz, NASCAR, the National Football League, the World Baseball Softball Confederation and World Wrestling Entertainment all attended the event this year.

The main SPORTEL event takes place each year in Monaco, with this year’s convention due to be held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monte Carlo from October 12 to 15.

More than 2,600 people attended last year’s SPORTEL in Monaco, with 981 companies from 78 countries represented.
