The Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) held a ceremony to celebrate the country's achievements at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Tokyo International Forum, prior to their National Sports Day.

The event was held to commend Japan’s medallists and overall performance at Rio 2016.

Japan managed to win 41 medals in the Brazilian city, their best-ever performance at a summer Olympic Games, including ten golds.

Their previous best was four years earlier at London 2012, where they claimed 38 medals.

Kaori Icho, the four-time Olympic champion who won the women's 58 kilogram freestyle wrestling title in Rio, and swimmer Kosuke Hagino, the men’s 400 metre individual medley champion, were among those who attended the ceremony.

Japan will host the next edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, in Tokyo.

The event was held in the presence of members of the JOC Council and JOC Executive Board, as well as JOC honorary members and Tokyo 2020 Partners.

Those in attendance were treated to a Japanese tradition that follows an Olympic Games - the Olympic Concert which the JOC has held as a cultural event since 1997.

Olympic Concerts are performances that integrate sports with culture, by combining videos of Olympic competition with orchestral performances and interviews with Olympians.

The videos are projected onto multiple screens.

The concert is intended to convey the values and stature of the Olympics not only to sports fans, but also to music fans who are not familiar with the Games.
