The International Union of Powerboating (UIM) have invited entries for the 2016 edition of their Environmental Award.

First launched in 2009, the award is aimed at recognising outstanding environmental leaders who have excelled in providing an inspirational vision, innovation, leadership or initiatives.

Member federations of the UIM are permitted to enter for the award, as well as racing teams, boat builders and engine manufacturers.

Universities, research centres, scientists, non-governmental organisations, event organisers, companies and individuals are also eligible to enter.

“The UIM is committed to promoting environmentally friendly practices which we hope will help to contribute towards solving some of the environmental challenges of today particularly those involving the decline in biodiversity to the unsustainable use of energy resources,” said Raffaele Chiulli, UIM President.

“In order to inspire and recognise excellence in innovation, development and application of environmentally friendly technologies the UIM is delighted to present the 2016 UIM Environmental Award” and the 2016 UIM Environmental Award Special Mentions."

Entries need to be submitted by December 16, with hopefuls needing to display their "positive and proven actions" towards protecting the environment, which result in a reduction of the environmental footprint in all types of motorboating activities.
