Defending women’s champion Aniek van Koot will face the top seed Jiske Griffioen in an all-Dutch NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters semi-final after narrowly making it through her group at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London.

A win and defeat in her opening two matches saw Van Koot’s hopes of defending her title remain in the balance and the Dutchwoman’s prospects took another blow after losing the first set of her match against compatriot Marjolein Buis.

The 25-year-old battled back to claim the second set, but was unable to complete the comeback as Buis eventually triumphed 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 to earn her third successive victory and finish top of Group B.

With Japan’s Yui Kamiji overcoming South Africa’s Kgothatso Montjane 6-2, 6-4 in the final group match, three players boasted identical records but Van Koot progressed to the semi-final due to having a better ratio of games won.

Van Koot will hope to find her form ahead of her tie against Griffioen, who completed the round robin phase with a 100 per cent record after beating Britain’s Lucy Shuker 7-6, 6-3 to finish top of Group A.

Germany’s Sabine Ellerbrock progressed as the runner-up due to having a better ratio of games won to home favourites Shuker and Jordanne Whiley, after beating the latter 6-3, 6-4 to end the group level with the British players with one win and two losses.

The 40-year-old will hope to end Buis’ unbeaten record in tomorrow’s match to reach the final.

In the men’s singles, top seed Shingo Kunieda bounced back from losing his 77-match unbeaten record yesterday by overcoming his fellow Japanese player Takashi Sanada 7-5, 6-3 in Group A to secure his passage into the semi-finals.

Kunieda had the possibility of topping the group in the event that Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez ended Joachim Gerard unbeaten record.

The prospect was raised after Fernandez took the first set off the Belgian player, but Gerard was able to turn the match around and eventually recorded a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win.

Gerard is set to face Stephane Houdet in the semi-final after the Frenchman advanced as the Group B runner-up by the narrowest of margins, with the top three players ending with two wins and one defeat from their matches.

The second seed knew a victory over his unbeaten team-mate Nicolas Peifer would give him a chance of progression and despite the match being in the balance throughout a decisive final set, Houdet emerged as a 6-2 2-6 6-4 victor.

Despite his defeat Peifer advanced having won more sets than his rivals, while Houdet’s higher percentage of games won saw him claim the second spot ahead of Gordon Reid, although the British player had ended his campaign with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over The Netherlands’ Maikel Scheffers.

With Britain's Andy Lapthorne and South Africa’s Lucas Sithole playing each other, the United States David Wagner was already assured of progressing to the quad singles final regardless of the overcome of his match with Israel’s Itay Erenlib.

The top seed, though, ended the group phase of the event in style, brushing aside his opponent 6-4, 6-0 before watching his potential final opponents in action.

A closely fought tie saw Sithole claim the opening set 6-2, but the South African was forced into a decider by the home favourite Lapthorne, who took the second 6-4.

The match swung back into the second seed’s favour in the finale of the contest, with the Sithole eventually booking a clash with Wagner by completing a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 triumph.
