American pair Nick Taylor and David Wagner secured their ninth UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters title with a tense three-set victory over Britain's Andy Lapthorne and Jamie Burdekin as the event came to a close in Mission Viejo, California.

Taylor and Wagner, the top seeds in the quad doubles competition, continued their reign of dominance by edging their rivals 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

The result saw them avenge their defeat to Lapthorne and Burdekin, who came into the match full of confidence after they progressed through the round-robin phase unbeaten, earlier in the tournament and cemented their status as the top quad doubles team in the world.

Italians Alberto Corradi and Antonio Raffaele finished third as they recovered from a set down to beat Alfredo di Cosmo and the United States’ Greg Hasterok 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

In the men’s doubles event, Michael Jeremiasz of France and Britain’s Gordon Reid clinched their first-ever Masters crown as they dethroned defending champions Joachim Gerard of Belgium and Frenchman Stephane Houdet.

The second seeds, who had brought a 100 per cent record into their showdown with the number one ranked pair, got revenge for their loss to Gerard and Houdet in last year’s final by claiming a commanding 6-1, 6-4 triumph.

“We had a very good start this week with four victories,” Jeremiasz said.

“It was good to get our revenge after last year,”

“We had a couple of slow games at the start of the second set but we got back in to it.”

Dutch Duo Tom Egberink and Maikel Scheffers sealed third place as they proved too strong for Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez and Nicolas Peifer of France with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 success.

Taylor and Wagner proved to be the only top seeds to reign supreme on the final day as Dutch pair Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot were crowned women’s champions thanks to a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Japan’s Yui Kamiji and Jordanne Whiley of Britain.

Griffioen and Van Koot had triumphed at the season-ending competition once before and were pushed all the way by the defending champions in the first set.

Kamiji and Whiley were made to rue not taking their chances as they failed to convert three set points when they were 5-4 in front, allowing the Dutchwomen to force a tie-break.

The Dutch duo took the opening set and then made their opponents pay for their mistakes in the second to close out a straight-sets win, earning them their first Wheelchair Doubles Masters crown since 2012.

Their compatriots Marjolein Buis and Michaela Spaanstra secured third after Germany's Sabine Ellerbrock was forced to retire along with British partner Lucy Shuker when they were trailing by one set to love.
