Sixteen players have been included on Women’s Sledge Hockey of Canada’s squad to represent the country for the 2015 to 2016 season.

It follows a three-day selection camp at the Goulbourn Recreation Complex in Ottawa, which included two practices and inter-squad games to allow head coach Tara Chisholm to assess the 25 players in contention for the squad.

Chisholm was aided in drawing up her selection with the support of assistant coach Derek Whitson, former coach Keith Metzger and several independent evaluators.

The squad contains 10 members of the team which claimed a silver medal at the 2014 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Hockey International Women’s Cup, where they were beaten 5-1 by United States in the gold medal match.

Ashley Goure, who scored Canada’s consolation goal, is one of the players to have retained their place in the squad and she is joined by Alanna Mah, Christina Picton, Claire Buchanan and Danica McPhee.

Geneva Coulter, Jessie Gregory, Peggy Assinck, Thea Hill and Vanessa Racine are the remaining members from that team.

They have also been joined by six new players with Jessica Matasa, Mackenzie Spong, Myriam Adam, Sarah Mickey, Sophie Forest and Véronique Major having impressed the coaching staff at the selection camp.

The team includes two goaltenders, six defenders and eight forwards, while there are also four players who could be used as alternates throughout the season.
