The International Olympic Committee expressed its reassurance regarding the transportation plans for the 2024 Paris Olympics after the socialist mayor, Anne Hidalgo, voiced significant criticisms of the transportation infrastructure leading up to the upcoming Summer Olympic Games.

At first glance, there is no immediate concern, as the International Olympic Committee selected France on Wednesday, beating out two other contenders, Sweden and Switzerland, to enter into "targeted dialogue" about hosting the 2030 Winter Olympics

The International Olympic Committee announced a list of 32 candidates Wednesday for elections to be held during the Paris Games from July 26 - August 11, when about 10,500 athletes are eligible to vote.

Bayeux, France, will be the training ground for the IOC Refugee Team. They will gather there between 15 and 18 July, just before heading to the Olympic Village to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The UN General Assembly overwhelmingly approved on Tuesday (118 votes in favor and none against) the call for an Olympic truce for the Paris 2024 Games, but Russia and Syria abstained in protest over Russia's recent exclusion from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The city of Stockholm said on Tuesday that it supported Sweden's bid to host the 2030 Winter Olympics, with the capital and its surrounding areas tipped to host some of the main events.

Russia has never positioned the Friendship Games as an alternative to other competitions, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said. Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) sent a letter to the National Olympic Committees recommending that they refuse to participate in the Friendship Games. On June 22, IOC head Thomas Bach said that Russia was trying to organize "politicized sports competitions."

During a special ceremony featuring the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, and the President of World Taekwondo, Chungwon Choue, a statue was unveiled at the Olympic Museum on the shores of Lake Geneva in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The IOC has recommended National Olympic Committees to refrain from participating in the Friendship Games in Moscow. "The goal of the Friendship Games was never to conflict with the IOC or create a competition against the Olympic movement. The Friendship Games were conceived as a harmonious addition to the existing international calendar, and this is particularly important for Russian athletes," stated the Organizing Committee.

Within the framework of the International Federations Forum taking place in Lausanne (Switzerland), the President of the IOC, Mr. Thomas Bach, has emphasized the vital and urgent need for unity in the world of sports amid growing geopolitical tensions.

The World Friendship Games are scheduled to take place in Moscow and Yekaterinburg from September 15 to September 29, 2024, featuring competitions in 27 sports, including basketball, boxing, athletics, swimming, gymnastics, beach soccer, sports programming, and even acrobatic rock and roll.

The Olympics have been cancelled three times in the past because of war —in 1916, 1940 and 1944—, but International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said on Monday that the 2024 Olympics in Paris will not be called off because of conflicts between Russia and Ukraine on one hand and Israel against Palestine on the other hand. 

The DOSB (German Olympic Sports Confederation) and the German Sport Youth (Deutsche Sportjugend) are introducing a reporting button for anti-Semitic incidents in sport on their websites (www.dosb.de; www.dsj.de). They are currently in talks with MAKKABI Germany about this initiative.

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach has praised Beijing Sport University (BSU) for upholding the Olympic spirit as they celebrated their 70th anniversary.
