John McEnroe's Team World has retained the Laver Cup following a thumping 13-2 win over Team Europe in Vancouver.

They won all their games on Friday (September 22) to race to a 4-0 lead.

American sensation Ben Shelton started the proceedings with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Arthur Fils of France before Francisco Cerúndolo of Argentina followed up with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

The third singles match on day one saw Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime ease past Gaël Monfils of France 6-4, 6-3.

American duo of Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe ensured Team World finished day one in emphatic fashion as Fils and Russian Andrey Rublev lost 3–6, 6–4, 6–10 in the doubles.

Rublev lost 2-6, 6-7 to Taylor Fritz of the United States to open day two before Norwegian Casper Ruud got Team Europe's only win of the tournament.

Ruud's despatched Paul 7-6, 6-2 before Team World struck back through Tiafoe.

The American came out victorious 7-5, 6-3 against Hubert Hurkacz of Poland.

Hurkacz and Monfils could not add to the two points earned by Ruud as they lost to Auger-Aliassime and Shelton 7-5, 6-4.

Carrying a 10-2 lead into the final day of the event, a win in the opening doubles match enough to secure the title.

Shelton and Tiafoe made no mistake as they defeated Hurkacz and Rublev 7-6, 7-6 to seal the deal.

"We stepped up and I thought all the guys played great," McEnroe was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"This was a special year for us.

"I know they're going to come back strong but I'll take two in a row any day.

"And I'm starting to think is it possible for three in a row!"

Team Europe claimed the top prize in the first four editions of the tournament before it came to and end in Britain last year.

It was a night that also saw an emotional retirement from Swiss great Roger Federer.
