McDonald’s has been announced as a new sponsor for the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

The fast food chain, headquartered in the United States, has joined the sponsor programme for the Games following the signing of an official agreement.

It was signed in the presence of Chilean Minister of Sports Jaime Pizarro, executive director of the Santiago 2023 Corporation Harold Mayne-Nicholls, the vice-president of the Chilean Olympic Committee Aquiles Gómez, and the executive director of Arcos Dorados de McDonald’s Carlos González.

Speaking after the agreement was confirmed Mayne-Nicholls said: "That they [McDonald’s] are with us is a tremendous incentive, tremendous flattery and a source of pride.

"We hope that, between now and the Games, more and more companies will join, because that benefits us in the organisation, but also in the future projection of our activities."

González added: "For us, it is a pride to be part of this team, integrated with the corporation and all the athletes, because we have been supporting Olympic athletes for years with our sports ambassador programme."

Last year McDonald’s signed an agreement with the Chilean Olympic Committee to become an official partner of Team Chile.

McDonald’s joins Antofagasta Minerals, BancoEstado, Bornan Sports Technology, LATAM Airlines, Mitsubishi Motors and Ottobock as official sponsors of Santiago 2023.

The Pan American Games are due to run from October 20 to November 5, with the Parapan American Games set to follow from November 17 to 26.
