Latam Airlines has presented the official plane of Santiago 2023 that will transfer the Flame from Mexico to Chile before the Pan American and Parapan American Games start on October 20.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner features Santiago 2023 branding on both sides as well as the official mascot Fiu at the rear of the aircraft.

The agreement making Latam Airlines the official airline of Team Chile was signed during a ceremony at Santiago Airport.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister Secretary General of the Government of Chile Camila Vallejos, Undersecretary of Sports Antonia Illanes, Panam Sports President Neven Ilic, Santiago 2023 executive director Harold Mayne Nicholls and Latam Airlines executive President Ignacio Cueto.

On September 29, the plane will have the mission of transporting the Pan American Flame to Chile after it is ignited in the traditional ceremony held in Teotihuacan, Mexico that officially begins the Torch Relay.

It will travel throughout Chile before arriving on to the National Stadium on October 20, where the torch will light the cauldron to officially begin the long-awaited celebration of the best athletes of the Americas.

"For us it is an honour that an airline such as Latam Airlines that is so recognised throughout the world is supporting the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games," said Ilic.

"Today, they have presented the branded plane on the occasion of our Games, which was fantastic and will bring the Pan American Flame from Mexico to Santiago.

"I really congratulate Latam and all its people for this great initiative."

Cueto added: "This plane will mobilise thousands of athletes and people who will come to this great sporting event from all over the world, and we are very happy and we feel very lucky about it.

"Branding our plane and taking this image of the Games to other countries in the region and to other continents is a good way to demonstrate our commitment to showcase this great meeting between athletes."

In addition to the presentation of the plane for the Games, Latam Airlines signed an important agreement with the Chilean Olympic Committee to become the official airline of Team Chile at Santiago 2023.

"For us it is great news that Latam is an Official Sponsor of Team Chile," Chilean Olympic Committee President Miguel Angel Mujica said.

"It is a globally renowned company that is committed to excellence, just like our athletes.

"We are sure that with their support, Team Chile will have even greater visibility throughout our country and the continent."

The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games will involve more than 6,900 athletes from 41 countries in what will be the most important and largest multi-sport event ever held in the history of Chile.
