Rybakina won her first and only Grand Slam title from a set down at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in London in 2022, but this time the tables were turned as the Tunisian recovered from losing the first set to advance.

Jabeur, adopting a more aggressive strategy this time around, broke twice in the first set but Rybakina clinched it on a tie-break, taking it 7-6.

A late break in the tenth game of the second set was the crucial moment for Jabeur as she took it 6-4.

The game that clinched the second set started a run of five in a row for the sixth seed, with Jabeur closing it out 6-1.

Rybakina’s defeat means there will be a first-time Wimbledon champion in the women’s draw this year.

In the day’s other women’s quarter-final second seed Aryna Sabalenka, playing as a neutral, overcame Madison Keys of the United States 6-2, 6-4.

After comfortably taking the first set, 2023 Australian open champion Sabalenka was pushed harder in the second, going 4-2 behind.

However, a run of 12 points in a row, including two breaks of serve, helped her take the set 6-4 and put her one win away from the final, which would also mean she overtakes Poland’s Iga Świątek as world number one. 

In the day’s men’s quarter-finals, top seed Carlos Alcaraz of Spain beat Holger Rune of Denmark in three close sets.

The 2022 US Open champion edged a tight first set on a tie-break 7-6, and went on to claim sets two and three by a 6-4 scoreline to reach the last four.

Elsewhere, the fairytale run of Christopher Eubanks of the United States came to an end at the hands of neutral athlete Daniil Medvedev in five thrilling sets.

Eubanks, who has won nine successive matches on grass since infamously describing it as “the stupidest surface to play tennis on” last month, lost the first set 6-4.

Powerful ball-striking and quickfire serving saw Eubanks get on a roll against the 2021 US Open champion, as he took set two 6-1 to level the contest.

His dream Wimbledon main draw debut looked set to continue as he won the third 6-4, before Medvedev dragged himself back into the match by claiming the fourth set on a tie-break 7-6.

Medvedev maintained his level in the fifth, and as Eubanks’ level dipped, the third seed took full advantage claiming two breaks of serve and running away with the decider 6-1.

Medvedev and Alcaraz will now meet in the men’s semi-finals on Friday (July 14), while defending champion Novak Djokovic will face eighth seed Jannik Sinner of Italy.

Tomorrow sees the women’s semi-finals scheduled to be held on Centre Court, with Jabeur facing Sabalenka, after wildcard Elina Svitolina of Ukraine takes on Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Markéta Vondroušová of the Czech Republic.
