Volunteers for the Chengdu 2021 International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Games have begun preparations for the event with the start of test events.

Approximately 4,800 volunteers offered their services at the tests while more than 20,000 are expected to work at the Games from July 28 to August 8 this year, after two postponements.

"As a volunteer, I deeply appreciate the joy and sense of accomplishment that come from helping others," said volunteer broadcast assistant Zhao Shuai.

"Moving forward, I will reflect on my experience, enhance my volunteering abilities, foster better teamwork, and elevate the quality of volunteer services provided during the Games."

The volunteers were evaluated by members of the Organising Committee, with "competencies, preparedness, and familiarity" of event procedures judged.

This is hoped to enable targeted training or adjustments to be made in order to improve their skills.

"Practical volunteer services help to assess and hone the work proficiency of the participants, laying a solid foundation for the upcoming Games," said Wei Suji, a deputy manager directing volunteers at the Xipu Campus Gymnasium.

"Overall, the services provided by volunteers during the test event have been highly recognised by athletes."

Feng Chunxue, an athlete who participated in the volleyball test event at the Chengdu University Gymnasium, stated, "This venue provided me with the best competition experience I've ever had.

"Not only did the high-standard preparations of the event leave a profound impression on me, but the enthusiastic and attentive services of the volunteers also allowed me to fully immerse myself in the competition."
