Chengdu 2021 has begun selecting volunteers for the award and flag-raising ceremonies for the Summer World University Games.

Organisers said a selection event was held at Sichuan University earlier this month.

The event reportedly saw hundreds of applicants from the university received.

The selection process was divided into three stages, starting with preliminary selection.

Face-to-face interviews followed, before a final review.

Chengdu 2021 said that the height of female award ceremony personnel must be above 168 centimetres, while male volunteers must be taller than 175cm.

The flag-raisers were required to be between 177cm and 183 cm tall.

Organisers added that participants should be university students with good conduct.

Selected volunteers will receive professional training for the roles, which will be arranged by the Organising Committee.

Chengdu 2021 has repeatedly highlighted the enthusiasm for people to volunteer for the Games.

The Organising Committee earlier this month said the number of registered city volunteers for the World University Games had exceeded 690,000.

Organisers say that more than 20,000 volunteers will be required for the Games.

Chengdu 2021 is set to run from August 17 to 29, having been pushed back slightly following the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

It is due to be the third time that China will host the Summer World University Games, following on from Beijing in 2001 and Shenzhen in 2011.

There are 18 sports on the programme.
