Training sessions have taken place for volunteers for the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Chengdu 2021 World University Games later this year.

During the five-day training session, run by the volunteer services team on the Chengdu 2021 Executive Committee, in total 21 topics were covered.

Topics included an introduction to the Games, volunteer service, communication etiquette, emergency response, fire safety and medical emergencies.

The volunteers received training in the form of classroom teaching, field surveys and practical drills.

Xiong Aoxiang, a Chengdu 2021 volunteer who is studying at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, spoke highly of the training courses.

"I am so glad to meet teammates from other universities, and acquire volunteer service knowledge and skills with them," said Aoxiang.

More than 20,000 volunteers have been recruited for the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games, with more than 15,000 athletes set to compete across 18 sports during the Games.

The Games have been postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent restrictions in China, and are now set to take place from July 28 to August 8.
