Cyprus sealed victory in the women's beach volleyball event but were beaten in the men's final by Andorra on the penultimate day of competition at the Games of the Small States of Europe in Montenegro.

The Cypriot women sealed top spot in their round robin standings with a 21-14, 21-14 win over Malta at Olympic Park in Budva.

It meant they finished on five victories from as many matches.

In the men's final, Cyprus triumphed 17-21, 24-22, 15-11 over Andorra. 

Another sport in which action finished today was shooting with gold medals going to Malta’s Gianluca Chetcuti in the men's double trap, Montenegro’s Miloš Božović in the men’s 10 metres air rifle and Luxembourg’s Sylvie Nockels in the women’s 10m air rifle.

Athletics competition also came to an end as Cyprus added six gold medals to their tally to come out on top with 10 overall.

Among their winners today were Angeliki Athanasopoulou in the women's 100m hurdles in 14.02sec, Kyriakos Pampaka in the men's high jump with a leap of 2.12m and Alex Beechey in the men's 200m in 21.60.

Completing their list of victors were Androniki Lada in the women's discus with a throw of 54.60m, Longinos Achilleos in the men's triple jump with a leap of 15.80m and the women's 4x100m relay team in 45.96.

Competition in Montenegro is due to conclude tomorrow.

Medals will be awarded in four sports.
