American Dania Jo Vizzi captured the women's skeet title today at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shotgun World Championships in Moscow.

The 22-year-old won the final at the Foxlodge Shooting Range in Russia's capital city after hitting 54 out of 60 targets.

Her success comes after she won the junior world title in 2014, with Vizzi now relishing her time in the senior ranks.

In the end it would be double gold as her success helped the United States to the team title with a new world record score.

"It feels amazing," she said.

"During today’s final I was definitely nervous.

"The crowd really helped.

"I loved all the cheering.

"Even the music helped me, I really liked it.

"My next step is the ISSF World Cup Final in India, in October.

"The main goal is the Olympics - Tokyo 2020.

"But I have a lot of steps before I can get there.

"I will take it one match at the time."

Albina Shakirova won the silver medal for Russia on home soil after hitting 52 targets.

Cyprus won bronze as Andri Eleftheriou ended on 43 hits.

The US has now won the skeet world title three times in a row after Brandy Drodz and Morgan Craft were successful in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

In the team competition, the overall American total of 216 has never been bettered.

Triple Olympic gold medallist Kimberly Rhode, the top qualifier yesterday, had to settle for fourth in the individual with 33 hits but still contributed to the group prize alongside Vizzi and Caitlin Connor.

Italy finished second on 211 and Russia came third on 209.

The men's skeet final will be held tomorrow.
