Six lecturers have been announced for a seminar being held by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), with the event forming part of this year’s Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Scientific Research Award.

The two-day seminar, due to be held on September 16 and 17, will focus on the importance of scientific research in the developing sports movement in the Arab world and it is hoped the attendees, at the Rami Grand Hotel in Seef, will gain significant knowledge from the speakers.

Bahrain’s Dr Mohammed Bu Daina and Dr Mohammed Bu Hiji are two of the lecturers who have been announced for the seminar and the pair will be joined by the United Arab Emirates’ Dr Ahmed Al Shareef and Dr Sari Hamdan of Jordan.

The line-up of speakers for the event is completed by Saudi Arabia’s Dr Hazza bin Mohammed Al Hazza and Dr Mohammed Hassanein of Egypt.

It is the latest seminar to be held as part of the Shaikh Nasser Award, which is now in its third edition and aims to promote positive attitudes towards scientific research as well as contributing to the development of the sports movement.

The BOC also hope it will help to establish partnerships in both Bahrain and with fellow Arab nations, which will help to improve the levels of performance in all areas of sport within the countries.

Abdulrahman Askar, BOC secretary general, has revealed that the number of requests to attend the latest seminar from academics and researchers in the fields of sports management, sports medicine and sports training has been high, with more than 150 submitting their names last week.

Ahead of the seminar members of the BOC have attended several meeting in the Saudi Arabian city of Dammam, where they were briefed regarding the preparations of the 2015 Gulf Cooperation Council Games.

Askar led the BOC delegation which visited several of the facilities which will be hosting competition during the Games and they also reviewed the Dammam 2015 report on the current arrangements made prior to the event.
