Thirty-seven places for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games were secured at the regattas in Lucerne. Italy qualified in both the men's and women's eights, with the USA leading in the overall standings.

With the 37 places available for Paris in the 19 boat classes, there were historic moments, heartbreaks and photo finishes in the finals of the final 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta on the Rotsee, a beautiful natural rowing lake on the northern outskirts of Lucerne.

Vaires-sur-Marne will be the next destination where these and other rowers will seek glory from Saturday 27 July, near Paris, just over 30 kilometres (Torcy district) west of the French capital, which will host its third modern Olympic Games.

In this beautiful setting, the Italian and Danish women's eights have secured the last two places for the event. Italy dominated the women's eight to the finish line, while Denmark and China battled it out for second place, which also secured a ticket to Paris 2024.

In the men's eight, the Italians mirrored the women's qualification (alongside the United States, who topped the competition), but with a much closer finish. A photo finish was needed to decide who would qualify for Paris 2024. The Italians edged out Canada, who will have to watch the Olympics on television, by just 0.01 seconds.

A powerful final sprint saw New Zealand secure second place in the women's pair behind Denmark, while Ireland overtook Denmark in the women's four to also qualify.

In the men's pairs, Denmark was overtaken in the final sprint by Germany, Lithuania and the Netherlands after leading for most of the race. The finish was very close, but in the end it was confirmed that Germany and Lithuania had secured the two qualifying places for Paris.

In the men's four, an impressive sprint by the Italians secured Olympic qualification, with Switzerland taking second place in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

The French teams also took advantage of the last chance regatta to secure Olympic quotas in both the men's and women's lightweight double sculls, ahead of Greece, who took the second and final places in both events.

There were also two spots at stake in the women's double sculls, with the Czech Republic winning and Great Britain adding to the impressive number of boats qualified for Paris. The United States and Serbia are also heading to Paris in the men's double sculls.

In the women's quadruple sculls, the United States secured another Olympic berth, while Ukraine also qualified. In the men's quadruple sculls, the US team missed out on Olympic qualification by just 0.13 seconds, with Norway and Estonia taking the last two places. Single scullers from Spain and Switzerland, as well as men from Romania and the United States, secured the final Olympic sculling tickets for Paris 2024.

Just as the final tickets for Paris 2024 were decided, the same happened for the Paralympic Games, which will be held in the same European capital from 28 August to 8 September.

The final Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta also decided the remaining places for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Regatta (28 August - 4 September 2024). With only one place available in most Paralympic classes, the races were even more exciting and there was no margin for error for the athletes aiming to qualify for the seventeenth Paralympic Games in history.
