The SAMBO tournament took place in the commune of Milyanto (which is translated from the language of the Mapuche people as “Golden Sun”) in the Bio-Bio region of Chile. Competitions were held in Sport and Combat SAMBO among both men and women.

According to the tournament organising committee, some participants travelled more than 500 kilometres south of the capital of Chile to participate in the cup, demonstrating a desire to prove themselves in fights and improve their professional skills.

Men competed in Sport SAMBO in the weight categories of 58, 64, 71, 79 and 88 kg and in Combat SAMBO in the weight categories of 58, 71 and 88 kg.

Women, in turn, competed in Sport SAMBO in the 64 and 72 kg weight categories, and in Combat SAMBO in the 64 kg category.

The President of the Sambo Federation of Chile, Nelson Romero, emphasises the importance of holding competitions in different regions of the country:

“It is very important not to spare effort and resources, both human and economic, to hold competitions in various cities. All this is bearing fruit, because this is the only way to develop SAMBO not only in the capital, providing residents of other regions with the opportunity to learn about this sport,” said the head of Chilean SAMBO.
