World Aquatics (WA) has announced the reallocation of one marathon swimming quota spot for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The spot has been reallocated to the South American country of Peru (PER).

The remaining National Olympic Committees (NOCs) have all accepted their quotas for the Olympic Marathon Swimming events. A total of 22 athletes of each gender will compete in the open water swimming events at these Summer Games (44 in total), which is six fewer than at Tokyo 2020, where 25 swimmers each competed in the men's and women's events.

WA continues to anticipate outstanding performances at Paris 2024, with a notable course on the River Seine in the heart of the capital, where athletes will seek glory in a 10km race through the heart of Paris.

The competitions are currently scheduled for Thursday 8 August and Friday 9 August 2024, as they will depend on the weather conditions and their impact on the water, particularly in terms of passing the health tests required for athletes to compete without compromising their physical integrity.

The women will be the first to jump into the Seine on 8 August at 07:30, while the men will do so at the same time the following day, both near the Pont Alexandre III. World Aquatics oversees six aquatic sports - swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming and high diving - and is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the world's leading authority on these sports.
