NBCUniversal has announced that advertising during the live coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony has been sold out.

Dan Lovinger, the President of Olympic and Paralympic partnerships for NBCUniversal, added that halftime slots for team sports, including basketball and football, and a new initiative called Prime Pods have all been bought.

However, some spots are available for the primetime coverage of the Opening Ceremony.

Audiences in the United States can tune into NBC, Peacock, and Telemundo for the live telecast.

"The Prime Pods is a really, I think, a cool example of how we’re trying to bring more action, and maybe a few less ads," Lovinger said, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

"So on 13 weeknights during primetime on NBC - and it’ll travel across to our simulcast on Peacock - you’re gonna see the peak half-hour when the biggest event is happening run commercial free, with the exception of a 60 second spot, and that’ll be a double box offer [with the event appearing in another box while the ad runs], so you’ll still be able to be part of the action."

It was already announced that every sport and event will be streamed on Peacock in a "Summer Games first" at Paris 2024.

Lovinger said that the total advertising sales of the media giants is already ahead in comparison to the previous Summer Games in Tokyo.

Spectator, TV, and streaming audiences are expected to increase at Paris 2024 after COVID-19 impacted it in the Japanese capital.

NBCUniversal has a deal in place that lets them screen the Olympic Games until 2032.

A total of $7.65 billion (£6.1 billion/€7.1 billion) was paid to extend the broadcast rights partnership in 2014, one of the first major acts of Thomas Bach's International Olympic Committee Presidency.
