United States and Netherlands took the men’s and women’s titles at the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation World Championships in Dubai.

In the men's final, Paralympic champions the US claimed victory by the narrowest of margins as they edged past Britain 67-66 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

In a repeat of the final from the previous edition in 2018, which Britain won, the top scorer in the match was Britain’s Gregg Warburton with 24 points.

The US top points scorer was Brian Bell on 18, as the nation featured in its 12th men’s Wheelchair Basketball World Championship final.

Two late free throws from Jorge Sanchez proved decisive in giving the US victory by a single point.

In the men’s bronze-medal match Iran beat the Netherlands 72-54, although it was Dutch player Mendel Op Den Orth who top scored in the match with 24 points.

In the women’s competition, reigning world and Paralympic champions the Netherlands completed a successful defence of their crown by defeating China 57-34.

Mariska Beijer of the Netherlands top scored with 22 points, with her teammate Bo Kramer notching up 18.

In the bronze-medal match the US beat Germany 57-42, with Maike Miller the top scorer in the match for Germany with 15 points.

The US top points scorer was Rose Marie Hollermann, who finished with 14 to her name.
