Holders Britain defeated Paralympic champions United States as the men's group stage concluded at the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation World Championships in Dubai.

The defending champions won 65-56 at the Dubai World Trade Centre in a repeat of the last men's final in 2018.

It meant Britain topped Group D.

"It's the first time playing against them after a long time," said Philip Pratt who top-scored for Britain with 30 points. 

"They are our biggest rival. 

"They are a very experienced team, it's always like playing chess against them. 

"It was just great competing against them."

All 16 teams involved in the group stage have advanced to the knock-out rounds, with the group results simply deciding who plays who.

Australia, the 2010 and 2014 winners, won Group A with a 100 per cent record, with Germany achieving the same feat in Group B.

In Group C, The Netherlands topped the pile with three victories from three.

Last 16 matches will start tomorrow and will see Britain face South Korea and the US take on Argentina.

Italy will play Thailand, Canada will meet Brazil, France will square off with Iran and Australia will lock horns with Egypt.

Netherlands will next play Iraq and Germany will meet hosts United Arab Emirates.

The event is the 2022 World Championships as it was postponed from last year to avoid a clash with the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The women's tournament is also ongoing with the group stage due to finish on Friday (June 16).
