An Integrity in Sport Online Workshop on Intelligence and Investigations was held for NOCs in Southern Africa ©NOCZ

Representatives from 10 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in Southern Africa have participated in an Integrity in Sport Online Workshop on Intelligence and Investigations, organised by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Alfred Foloko, President of the NOC of Zambia (NOCZ) and Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone Six, urged participants to unite to safeguard the integrity of sports in his opening presentation.

Presentations were also made by INTERPOL integrity in sports training officer Dieter Braekeveld and Evangelos Alexandrakis, the NOC contact manager in the Olympic Movement Unit on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions.

The NOCZ shared its experience at the online workshop through secretary general Boniface Kambikambi and IOC Believe in Sport ambassador Nchimunya Mweetwa, a former footballer who was banned by FIFA for match-fixing.

A presentation was also made by the Anti-Corruption Commission of Zambia.

INTERPOL and the IOC stressed the importance of collaboration and sharing resources during the workshop.

As well as Zambia, participants from Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe attended the workshop, and it is hoped it can serve to strengthen regional cooperation against competition manipulation.
