The Indian esports community has raised over INR30 (£29,200/$36,400/€34,000) to aid the appeal fund for victims of the tragedy in Odisha where at least 288 people lost their lives after a collision between three trains.

A further 1,200 people were seriously injured in the crash and many victims have still not been identified.

Gaming groups S8UL Esports and CarryMinati organised charity streams to raise funds for victims of the disaster.

Gamer Tanmay Singh who plays under the name “Sc0utOP”, originates from the area where the disaster took place and suggested the idea of the charity stream.

"Being from Odisha, I strongly felt it was my responsibility to do whatever I could within my capacity and help the people affected by this tragic disaster," Sc0utOP said.

The fundraiser was supported by Indian Premier League cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal of the Rajasthan Royals who made a personal donation.

"I am also grateful to my audience whose participation and generosity have played a significant role in helping us make a positive impact in the lives of those affected by the tragedy."

After the fundraiser S8UL posted a message of thanks saying: "Your kindness knows no bounds, and we are forever grateful for your unwavering support."

Ajey Nagar, a gaming influencer as CarryMinti was another to organise a charity stream.

"In times like these, we all need to come together and work towards the common goal of being there for one another on a humanitarian level," he explained.

"I hereby appeal to everyone to unite in these trying times and extend a helping hand in whatever way you can.

"I pray for a speedy recovery of the injured and extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families."

Nagar had previously raised funds for flood victims in Assam and Bihar in recent years.

Meanwhile, Godlike Esports posted a message to their fans explaining that they had decided to donate winnings from the Battlegrounds Mobile India Rising (BGMI) tournament to the appeal fund.

"We would like to announce that we are going to donate all of this amount to the people and the families who have suffered in the Odisha tragedy and we would also like to encourage you guys to donate any amount possible," team member Khusveen "RebeL" Kaur explained.

"Be it small or large, it will definitely bring a significant difference to their lives."
