The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) has revealed plans for the third edition of the Bahrain Baby Olympics, where competitors aged three to five are set to compete in six sports.

It is claimed by the BOC the Baby Olympics can "attract children at an early age to develop their physical and motor skills", "create early focus in the minds of young children about the importance of exercise", instil "values and principles in the early childhood", and enhance "the importance of physical and sports education by raising awareness among parents".

Previous editions have been held in 2018 and 2019, with more than 1,000 children participating.

This year's is due to be held over four days at the Isa Sports Complex, beginning with an Opening Ceremony on Sunday (May 28) set to feature a baby race with walkers and a baby front crawl race.

Medals are set to be on offer in football with a free kicks competitions, basketball through free throws into the basket, athletics with a sprint run, hurdles and kids relay, gymnastics with free body expression, freestyle swimming, and weightlifting with the emphasis on technique.

Each of the sports is open to three, four and five years olds.

Football, basketball and swimming are scheduled for Monday (May 29) and athletics, gymnastics and weightlifting for Tuesday (May 30).

Additional athletics and gymnastics are planned on May 31 next week, the same day as the Closing Ceremony.
