FIFA has stripped Peru of the hosting rights for this year's men's Under-17 World Cup following discussions with the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF).

The tournament is still due to take place from November 10 to December 2 but the Bureau of the FIFA Council will now look to designate a new host.

"The move was made given the inability of the host country to fulfil its commitments to completing the infrastructure required to stage the tournament," read a FIFA statement.

"Despite a very positive working relationship between FIFA and the FPF, it has been determined that there is now not sufficient time to secure the required investment and complete the necessary work with the Peruvian Government ahead of the tournament start date.

"FIFA would like to express its thanks to the FPF for their efforts, and remains open to organising a competition in Peru in the future."

The normally biennial event has not taken place since Brazil hosted in 2019.

FIFA was forced to cancel the 2021 edition, also due to be held in Peru, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year's planned competition is set to be the 19th edition of the Under-17 World Cup.

Brazil go into it as defending champions having won on home soil four years ago.

It was the country's fourth title and puts them one behind all-time leaders Nigeria who triumphed in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015.

The decision comes one week after FIFA took the men's Under-20 World Cup from Indonesia because the country refused to host Israel at the tournament scheduled for May.

Argentina is thought to want to step in for the event, with FIFA expected to confirm a new host nation this week.
