The Kiribati National Olympic Committee (KNOC) has visited potential venues for the 2023 Micronesian Games in Majuro in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

More than 1,000 athletes are due to compete in the multi-sport event, which is set to run from July 22 to August 1.

Members of the KNOC attended a two-day meeting which included site visits to venues that are currently under construction, with a scheduled completion of April this year.

KNOC’s Selection Justification Commission is currently working with National Federations to recruit and train athletes for the Kiribati team for the event.

Kiribati say they are hopeful of fielding a 100-strong contingent across 11 sports.

The Micronesian Games in the Marshall Islands were due to be held in 2022, however competition was delayed by a year due to challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

The previous edition of the Micronesian Games took place in Yap in 2018, with Palau topping the overall medals table.
