Will Jones, Mac Morrin, Justin Barnes and Rebecca Heller have all secured qualification after the United States Open Sailing Series in Clearwater, Florida.

Jones and Barnes advanced in 49er, Morrin in men's kiteboarding and Heller in women's iQFoil.

Kiteboarding and iQFoil is set to make its debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Jones and Barnes slightly edged past their compatriots Arie Moffat and Sam Bonin by only one point after tying with them through eight races, and finishing above them in the ninth.

"We are super excited to have qualified for the Pan American Games," said Jones and Barnes.

"This regatta in Clearwater ended up being really short, with only two of four days of racing, so the pressure was on to perform on the days we did race."

"Big shout out and respect to our training partners Arie and Sam, who were super fast this weekend and pushed it to the last race. 

"It is exciting to have our Canadian squads pushing each other to a higher level at every regatta."

Morrin qualified in the last race of kiteboarding, where he took the last of three available spots.

"After a big weekend battling it out on the water and a few hard months of training, I am excited to have qualified for the Pan American games and to be able to continue the journey to the Paris 2024 Olympics," said Morrin.

Heller qualified in the iQFoil as she was the only Canadian athlete that competed in the event.

"After facing challenging weather conditions and talented competitors, I am happy overall with the progress I’ve made after moving into the iQFoil class," said Heller. 

"I am excited to have qualified Canada for the Pan American Games and look forward to continuing my training leading up to the Games."

The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games is scheduled to be held from October 20 to November 5.
