Adam Siao Him Fa helped end a 12-year wait for France as he won the men's event at the International Skating Union (ISU) European Figure Skating Championships.

The 21-year-old, who had a 10-point lead coming into the free skate, added to the tally to claim the gold in Espoo.

His performance today earned him a total score of 267.77 points.

"I'm really proud about tonight, right now I cannot (believe) it but it feels great," the Frenchman said.

Italy's Matteo Rizzo bagged silver and performed superbly in the free skating segment despite an error on his opening quad toe.

Rizzo returned to the European podium with 259.92 points.

He had won a bronze in 2019.

The third medal of the night went to Lukas Britschgi of Switzerland, who beat France's Kévin Aymoz and Latvia's Deniss Vasiljevs - who had been ahead of him after the short programme - to the bronze medal.

Britschgi managed 248.01 points for the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, two-time European bronze medallists Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy have taken the lead in the rhythm dance.

The Italian champions earned 85.53 points for their effort, with Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson of Britain 1.5 points behind in second, and the home pair of Juulia Turkkila and Matthias Versluis getting the third spot.

Fear and Gibson earned 84.12 points while the Finnish duo set a new personal best of 77.56 points.
