The Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) has hosted this year’s Ordinary General Assembly of the Association of Mexican Olympic Games, which marked the start of celebrations of 100 years of the Olympic Movement in the country.

Medallists and Mexican Olympians were invited to the event at the COM headquarters in Mexico City.

The activities of the association during 2022 were discussed, as was the year ahead when the milestone anniversary of the Olympic Movement in Mexico will be marked.

COM President María José Alcalá, who took part in the Assembly said: "The Mexican Olympic Committee forges examples, to opinion leaders, to good men and women.

"It gives them the opportunity for a different life and having a ceremony like this, where we can meet, to remember, is very valuable for our lives.

Alcalá used her speech to highlight that there are 1,792 Olympians in Mexico, in a population of more than 130 million Mexicans.

The Association of Mexican Olympic Games is an organisation for all individuals that represented Mexico at the Olympics, and is designed to act as a uniting factor for national sports, as well as the promotion of health, sports and physical culture.

Mexico has competed at every Summer Olympics since 1924, winning 13 gold, 24 silver and 36 bronze medals.

The country has competed at ten Winter Olympics, but has never won a medal.
