The Indian capital city of New Delhi had been announced as the host city last month, but the exact timeframe had not been decided.

"The countdown to one of the world's biggest boxing events in 2023 begins now," said Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India.

"The World Championships are a testament to Indian boxing's unparalleled credentials and we, at the Boxing Federation of India, are geared up to deliver a spectacular experience.

"With the partnership of the IBA team, we are confident that these World Championships will help boost boxing globally.

"I am excited about Indian boxers making their mark on the global stage again and look forward to inspiring action in the ring from March 15 to 31."

Registration is set to open soon for the Championships with athletes able to compete in 12 categories from the under-48-kilograms division to the over-81kg class.

New Delhi held the 2018 edition of the event which showcased 277 boxers from 62 countries with China, Chinese Taipei, and the host nation occupying the podium places while Irish, German, and South Korean athletes also took home at least one gold medal each.

The city also welcomed fighters for the 2008 Championships.

The last edition of the event, which was held earlier this year in May in Istanbul, was attended by a record 310 boxers from 73 nations and it is hoped this number will increase once again in New Delhi.

"India is very passionate about boxing and conducting the World Championships here will be the perfect opportunity to celebrate the innumerable victories as well as inspire many more women to take up the sport and popularise the sport more than ever," IBA President Umar Kremlev said.
